TV Review

Title: Muslim Matchmaker: Main Character Energy (S1.E1)
Channel: Disney
Genre: reality-TV
Main Characters: Yasmin Elhady, Hoda Abrahim @ https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt27808547/

The Plot or purpose: Matchmakers meet their clients who inform them of their likes/dislikes regarding a match. The matchmakers pinpoint who to match each client with matches within their database.

The main story line or message is: To trust the process along with Allah. Go on three dates within three months. Ask each other three hundred questions, dig deeper. Find out if you want to be exclusive and/or keep it going--this includes investing your time and resources.

The best (worst) bit is about: Mariam is a new Houston client who gets dating advice from the matchmakers as she wants to get married right away--is that realistic? They point out. We learn that Mariam has been proposed 3 times; however, they did not go well due to her emotions. We learn about Mariam's likes and dislikes list, which may be too much to find. Fulani also wants to get married and has his sights immediately on marriage, which denies him second dates, he says. The good thing is, Fulani is open to suggestions by the matchmakers. We also leant about Fulani's likes and dislikes, which happens to be part of the process for the matchmakers. Noureen tells her friends that she is going to see a matchmaker, which is another serious level compared to dating apps. Noureen prays 5 times a day who wants a balanced life. The matchmaker tells Noureen she needs to "flirt to convert."

I enjoyed (I didn't enjoy) watching this programme because: Yasmin and Hoda opened with a cheerful smile and personality as they scope availability of any single-Muslim people within a cafe. Yasmin and Hoda find a beautiful Muslim woman who says she is single and Muslim wondering if her mom sent them. We learn that marriage for Muslims is a gift from God that consumes half their life. Yet, finding a lifelong partner can cause anxiety for some. The production can be a bit quirky at times as there is humor involved, which is ok.

I would (I wouldn't) recommend this programme to someone because: I would recommend this programme, because Yasmin and Hoda have helped over 100 couples be married through their matchmaking. The episode made me feel as if to keep watching more episodes, which is a good sign.

5 out of 5 stars
